Proposals have been put forward for a new skyscraper to take pride of place overlooking Collins Street that lies in the heart of Melbourne's central business district.
The design, penned by the pet kangaroos of architectural firm Bruce Henderson Architects will, if planning applications are approved, stand at 65 storeys which should translate into a height of approximately 218 metres. As such it is being touted as the districts first New York style residential tower.
Rising from a fully glazed podium, which it appears will change colours throughout the day giving it a marketing friendly boost, the tower consists of three angular, blade-like sections which give the appearance of separate super-slim elements in a similar manner to the massing of the Rockefeller Center in New York.
Inside the tower a selection of amenities for the residents to enjoy including floor-to-ceiling glazing on all apartments a landscaped roof garden, sauna, swimming pool, gymnasium and a café.
Ranging from one to three bedrooms with a size of 40 square metres to85 square metres, they arent the largest flats in Melbourne, but have already proven popular with apartments already being sold.
All being well, the tower should open its doors to resident in 2013.
